Here is our catalog of services. For work not listed here, we use typical industry rates or our shop labor rate of $75/hour.
Service shops typically have what are sometimes called their shop labor rate, or simply shop rate. From that shop rate, a service manager pays for everything the service department does. We base our prices on a shop labor rate of $75 per hour. The prices we put to our catalog of services are based on industry standards of how much time a task should take under ideal conditions.
Please note, we charge for parts separately.
Tune-Up
This service is typically what we’d do to a bike before putting it back into use after being stored for the winter. We highly recommend this service for any new bike purchase, when the retailer did not do this before you take it home. A tune-up includes the following services:
- Complete safety inspection – I check all contact points between the rider and the bicycle: saddle, seat post, handlebars/controls, pedals.
- Minor wheel truing – This is truing I can correct with some spoke manipulation. If the entire wheel needs re-tensioning or dishing, it is major wheel truing, charged separately below.
- Adjust front and rear brakes – I will align rim brake pads to the rim correctly, adjust lever throw for even and correct engagement. If your bike has mechanical disc brakes, I ensure the calipers are centered and the pads are engaging evenly.
- Adjust derailleurs and shifting – I check and adjust as necessary, derailleur limits and indexing
- Clean and lubricate chain – It isn’t useful to lubricate a chain without cleaning it, it simply makes grinding paste of the dirt inside the chain links and rollers
- If adjustable, adjust hubs, bottom bracket, and headset bearings – I adjust bearings so they are smooth, with no play
- Air up tires – I set tire pressure to within the range defined on the tire sidewalls.
Prices: $50 for a single speed bike, $70 for a multi-speed bike, and $90 for tandems, three wheelers, and e-bikes.
Overhaul
For an overhaul, we do everything we do for a tune up. In addition, we do the following services:
- Detailed cleaning of chain, chainrings, cassette, and derailleurs – I’ll remove the chain and cassette to clean them in an ultrasonic cleaner, clean jockey wheels in rear derailleur
- Re-lubricate and reassemble drive train – I lubricate derailleur jockey wheels and derailleur pivot points, lubricate and reinstall chain and cassette
- If able to be serviced, rebuild headset, bottom bracket, and hubs – I will disassemble components as required, clean, re-grease, and install new ball bearings
Prices: $50 for a child’s single speed bike, $115 for an adult single speed bike, $135 for a multi-speed bike, and $155 for tandems, three wheelers, and e-bikes.
